Phelps Stokes Establishes New RBS Chapter at UNC-Wilmington
On October 15, 2009, Phelps Stokes established the University of North Carolina, Wilmington's (UNCW) Ralph Bunche Society to help continue our strategic goals of developing and graduating global citizens. An inauguration ceremony was held on UNCW’s campus at the Madeline Suite. The student inductees were: Whitney Murrill, Tiara Maynard, Eric Black, Kevin Ngala, Gabrielle Carr, and Latisha McCollum. The Ralph Bunce Socieites provides undergraduate students, especially minority and working-class undergraduates, extracurricular activities that develop their skills and knowledge to positively impact the world.
“We designed an enrichment program for undergraduates that is defined by relevance, diverse thinking, and creativity and that is inspired by one of our most famous trustees, Dr. Bunche,” said Dr. Badi Foster, president of Phelps Stokes. “Dr. Bunche, a truly brilliant renaissance man in every way, was recognized around the world for his achievements in scholarship, diplomacy, civil service, and racial justice, and we wanted to create a program that represents what he stood for.”
-Dr. Badi G. Foster, President - Phelps Stokes
