Board of Trustees Member: Ambassador Robert S. Gelbard
Ambassador Gelbard co-founded Washington Global Partners, LLC and provides strategic advisory and consulting services to governments, multi-national companies, and international organizations with business development strategies, advice on government and political relations, market entry and regulatory services, and risk assessments. Mr. Gelbard is currently leading several engagements focused on homeland security technology programs, energy management strategies, aviation services, and defense systems. His primary regions of geographic focus are North America, Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. From 2002 to 2003, Mr. Gelbard served as Senior Vice President for International and Government Affairs at ICN Pharmaceuticals.
Mr. Gelbard has over 35 years of government experience as a diplomat in the U.S. Department of State. Before retiring, he held several senior policy positions including Ambassador to Indonesia and Bolivia, President Clinton's Special Envoy to the Balkans, and Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, where he managed U.S. counter-terrorism policy. Mr. Gelbard is the recipient of numerous awards including the Presidential Meritorious Service Award and the State Department's Distinguished Service Award. Mr. Gelbard earned a B.A. from Colby College and an M.P.A. in Economics from Harvard University.
